Disaster Relief

When hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, or fires damage entire cities and communities in the United States or around the world, I CAN provides relief.

Widows and Orphans in India

There are an estimated 35 million orphans in India. They are hungry, abandoned, homeless, scared and alone. I CAN Relief partners with a ministry in India (and the founders of I CAN Relief serve on the board of this ministry) to build small homes for widows who are willing to take in and care for a handful of these orphaned children. I CAN Relief Fund helps to support these newly made families through monetary donations to provide medical attention, food, clothing, shelter and education for the widows and children.

GenderSave

Every eight minutes a mother dies in childbirth in India and approx 90% of these deaths are avoidable. Girls in India ages 1-5 are dying of pneumonia and diarrhea at a rate 5 times higher than boys that age. It is estimated that India aborts 500,000 female babies a year. Some women, who refuse to abort their female child are rejected and abandoned by the husband and family. The practice of performing sex change operations on newborn girls is growing. There are more than 37 million more males than females, leaving a gender imbalance and an Indian girl, age 1-5 years, is 75% more likely to die than an Indian boy. I CAN Relief Fund partners with GenderSave, a woman’s shelter in India that exists to rescue these girls and give them life; to enable rejected mothers to keep and care for their daughters. Abandoned or unwanted girls are cared for at local affiliated orphanages discussed above. Rejected mothers are offered practical skills training or assistance in starting a micro-business so they can provide for themselves and their daughters. When possible, family counseling is provided to strengthen or rebuild a family divided over the birth of a girl. Click here for the Gendersave website

Skeets & Adam Memorial Fund

When the founders of the I CAN Relief Fund, Martin and Katrina lost both their brothers in a tragic house fire, the loving community of Harbor Country reacted with unsolicited donations to help with funeral costs. It was such a blessing that the Skeets & Adam memorial fund was started to help others in the community who may face the same type of tragedies. The fund gives monetary donations to those of Harbor Country who face tragedies of deaths, illnesses, fires, etc.
